The types of yachts that exist are many and the truth is that it is sometimes hard for someone, especially an amateur, to make a choice. Like in every field of interest, there is a specialized vocabulary and numerous terms that, many times, overlap each other and cause a great deal of confusion. Although there are not any specific, official factors that differentiate a yacht from a big boat, it is still a sea vessel. Most of the people that love yachts, characterize it as something that is used strictly for purposes of recreation or pleasure such as cruising, entertaining, water sports, fishing, or year-round accommodations. By rule of thumb, yachts have enough space so as to accommodate people for sleeping overnight, the so-called cabins of the ship. Moreover, they have a kitchen (galley) for meal purposes and a fully operational bathroom (head). Their size and weight is such that they cannot be operated just by human inputs (i.e rowing) in order to propel forward, but need mechanical means. Yachts are also classified by other factors such as their mode of propulsion, size, style, amenities, and function.
In order for someone to be able to choose the ideal yacht, they must be aware of the different types of yachts that exist and which may vary a lot in style, purpose, and size.
